Helen grew up in the small village of Norsewood, nestled in the foothills of the Ruahine Ranges. Back then, Norsewear wasn’t just a brand — it was part of everyday life.
“We’d do school visits to the factory, locals worked there, and socks for Christmas and birthdays were a given,” she laughs. “It was just one of those constants — always there, always reliable. The only real reason people used to stop through our little village.”
These days, Helen calls Whangārei home, having moved to Northland seven years ago. But her heart still belongs to the backcountry. When she's not at working, training up Firefighters for Fire and Emergency NZ, she’s constantly planning missions into the hills — whether it’s fast-packing, hunting, or simply reconnecting with nature. If she’s not out on an adventure herself, she’s helping others prepare for their own — often involving long-distance trail runs across some of the most rugged terrain in Aotearoa.
One of her proudest milestones? Completing a fast-packing trip that covered every DOC hut in the Kaweka Forest Park — the first to do so in a single mission. “It was hectic, but so worth it.”
For Helen, Norsewear is more than just quality gear. “I love the nostalgic, no-BS, no-frills tough comfort — and the fact it supports the New Zealand wool industry. In a world chasing fast, cheap, synthetic everything, Norsewear is honest and humble. It’s for real Kiwis doing real things — and it’s quite literally close to home.”
