Norsewear started manufacturing nearly 60 years ago in a small town in Central Hawke’s Bay called Norsewood. As it was from the beginning, today the town is still the heart of the business. Norsewood is where the factory is located and, from the company’s inception, its location and people have shaped the development of the products and our brand. The business has changed its name to Norsewood Knitwear Limited but continues to manufacture all socks , gloves , beanies and scarfs on the Norsewood site, and brings in garments from around the world from manufactures who can meet the stringent quality requirements which its brands are recognised for.
We see great value in anchoring our plans for the future of the business on the success of the past. Our vision is to take what is a good company and make it a great company.
To fuel our journey towards that vision, we’re sharply focusing our business on three core product brands that will sit under the overarching Norsewood Knitwear Limited brand:
Duthie and Bull – a refreshed brand, named after ship builders and entrepreneurs whose ships, Ballarat and Hovding, transported Scandinavian migrants here in the 1870s.
70 Mile Bush – a high-performance Merino wool and possum fur apparel range, bearing the name of the densely-forested land that Norsewood settlers encountered in establishing the township.
Norsewear – the original brand of socks and accessories that started it all.
The company has had significant investment in technology and equipment over recent years – and that’s something we’ll continue. We see real potential in this business, and we’re excited to work with our people to create top quality products and build strong relationships with our customers. For us, it’s all about securing a long and successful future together.

You're wearing Norsewear’s natural merino wool
There’s a good reason sheep don’t feel the cold. It isn’t rocket science. Acrylic fabric may wick water away from your body but it gets wet. Wool absorbs up to 30% of its weight in moisture. It’ll keep you warm and dry even when it’s wet.
Merino wool is good for you and the environment. Merino wool is a natural fibre. Any loose fibres that come out in the wash break down. You won’t be adding plastic to the ocean and that’s good for everyone worldwide.
Merino wool is known for its softness and comfort. We blend some products with possum fur for some extra softness. All Norsewear merino wool products are great to wear. No matter how old you are, you can live, work and play in quality New Zealand made and designed clothing if it has the Norsewear brand.
